PoHS: Prohibition on Certain Hazardous Substances in Consumer Products. On June 8, 2007, Norway notified the WTO of a request to ban certain hazardous chemical substances in consumer products, stating that it would limit the use of 18 substances in consumer goods, known as the PoHS regulations. The "Prohibition of Specific Hazardous Substances in Consumer Products" issued by Norway came into effect on January 1, 2008, covering almost all consumer goods. The new regulations propose to limit 18 substances, of which only 2 (lead and cadmium) are included in the EU RoHS Directive, and there are also 16 substances that are prohibited from use.
