According to the definition of "failure" in Article 3.2 of GB/T24908, a luminous flux maintenance rate lower than 50% is considered a failure The IEC draft uses a luminous flux maintenance rate of less than 50% as the end-of-life criterion, but for specialized lighting applications, a luminous flux maintenance rate of 70% can be chosen as the end-of-life criterion. The choice of luminous flux maintenance rate can be determined by the manufacturer, but 50% must be marked on the product and packaging, and 70% must be marked in the product manual. The Energy Star standard adopts an L70 lifespan, which means that the end of lifespan is achieved when the luminous flux maintenance rate reaches 70% Article 5.7.1 of GB/T 24908 stipulates: "The average lifespan of the lamp should not be less than 25000 hours."

The Energy Star standard stipulates that the minimum lifespan of decorative LED lamps is 15000 hours; The minimum lifespan of other LED lights is 25000 hours. Allow for claiming higher lifespan levels. Decorative lights can claim 20000 hours, and all types of lights can claim 30000 hours, 35000 hours, 40000 hours, 45000 hours, and 50000 hours. However, when claiming a higher lifespan, the requirement for maintaining the luminous flux at 6000 hours also increases accordingly, and for those claiming a lifespan greater than 25000 hours, additional measurements of luminous flux maintenance at other time points are required. For example, for those claiming a lifespan of 35000 hours, a maintenance rate of 94.1% for 6000 hours is required, which is 2.3% higher than the 91.8% claimed lifespan of 25000 hours.
