This standard specifies the testing methods for Ethernet switches, including functional testing, performance testing, protocol testing, and routine testing. In this standard, Ethernet switches refer to LAN switches with Ethernet interfaces, and all unspecified switches in the following text specifically refer to Ethernet switches. This standard applies to Ethernet switches operating on the second layer data link layer in the ISO OSI7 layer reference model. Ethernet switches operating on the third or higher layer are not within the scope of this standard. This standard applies to manageable network devices, and unmanaged devices are not within the scope of this standard. Ethernet switches specifically used for access should also comply with YD/T 1240-2002 "Test Methods for Access Network Equipment - Broadband Access Network Equipment Based on Ethernet Technology".
