PVC-U pipes are mainly made of sanitary grade polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin as the main raw material, with an appropriate amount of stabilizers, lubricants, fillers, color enhancers, etc. added. They are extruded by a plastic extruder and injection molded by an injection molding machine. They are then cooled, solidified, shaped, inspected, and packaged to complete the production of pipes and fittings. Compared with traditional pipelines, PVC-U pipelines have the advantages of light weight, corrosion resistance, low water flow resistance, energy conservation, fast installation, and low cost. They have been vigorously promoted and applied, with significant benefits. Since the 1980s, China has been piloting the application of PVC-U pipelines in municipal and construction projects. After more than 10 years of promotion, PVC-U pipelines have made significant progress, but the per capita consumption is still less than 1/19 of that of developed countries and regions such as the United States, Japan, and Western Europe. With the joint issuance of the notice of "vigorously developing chemical building materials" by the Ministry of Construction and other five departments, the promotion and application of PVC-U plastic pipelines have been accelerated. Hygienic and environmentally friendly PVC-U water supply pipelines have continuously replaced traditional pipelines with high energy consumption, high pollution, high cost, and low hygiene indicators.
